Milos Island Bed and Breakfast

This is an XHTML/CSS web site for a fictional B&B in the Greek Isles. This was a project for a Web Imaging Techniques class. The site is very heavily laden with images but they have all been optimized and the site is surprisingly light on its feet. The load time is very minimal and the images still look very nice on a modern computer monitor. The site uses PHP for much of the processing and even includes an interactive Flash map. Much of the imagery are Creative Commons licensed photos from Flickr, some of the images are my own, and a few of them were scanned from a Greek cookbook. All credits can be provided upon request.

Black Oak T-Shirts

This is a web site for a fictional company called Black Oak T-Shirts. This was an interesting project in that I was not allowed to use any server side scripting. I was not, however, restricted on my use of client-side scripting so I used a Javascript library called jQuery and an XML file where I could store product information (much as I would do with a database).
Almost all of the shopping page content is created dynamically using the above methods. AJAX can only do so much, though and there is no shopping cart to process an order, this must be done with server-side scripting and a database. Other than that, this site is very dynamic, modern, and fully standards compliant. I will be revisiting this project in the future and updating it with server side processing and a fully functional shopping cart. Stay tuned…

Math Game for Pre-Schoolers
Visit this site ->
This is a Flash based interactive game for pre-schooler aged children that helps them learn simple addition. The game tracks the progress of the user and lets them know when they made a mistake, while encouraging them to try again, and congratulates them when they answer correctly. Part of the challenge of the project is that the users are not strong readers and all instruction and interaction must be done verbally and visually in order to communicate with the user. Another challenge is that the addition problems must be issued as randomly as possible. This is easily accomplished with Actionscript 3 but that makes it difficult to add the verbal cues so I created several sentence fragments and assembled them seamlessly and dynamically with Actionscript 3 based on the randomly generated problem.

Apollos Coffee
This is a spoof of a Starbucks commercial that I did for my Video Production 1 class. It features a homemade bear suit, custom illustration, and I even sang a jingle for this. I got a lot of assistance from my family in the production of this, as well.

Crooks
This is a spoof of the Cops show (from the crooks’ point of view). I did this for my Desktop Video course at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and used some of the stock footage provided by the Art Institute, as well as some of my own footage.
