Like the Red Apple, this was done as part of an “Apple a Week” series for a Graphics Class. I started with the basic red apple and then altered the color scheme using one I got off of Kuler called “Spike” (mostly blues). This gave the apple a nice “earthy” look and then all I needed was the land mass. I downloaded a vector map of the world from Vecteezy.
I only needed the Western Hemisphere so I loaded the file in Illustrator and ungrouped the image, selected just what I needed and pasted that into my “apple” file. I had to use the free distort tool on each of the land masses to conform them to their new home and then colored the group a light green. I used the inner glow filter to lighten the edges a bit and then used the overlay blending mode.
